The inkblots were made as a present for the friend of a group of people who clubbed together to pay for it. It was her fortieth birthday. The inkblot test is a very simple psychological technique initiated by Hermann Rorschach designed for free association of ideas as a means of plumbing the depths of a patient. In this case there were no patients and the ink blots were made in the name of play and art. The stainless steel shapes were mounted onto chemically treated mild steel that was then waxed to preserve the good qualities that had occurred.
