The Peeler was another sculpture that I made for the Susi Gwyn commission. Inspired by her vegetable patch and her enjoyment of the absurd I made the sculpture during the summer of 2004.
I wanted to make an object that in the real world could peel back layers perhaps revealing a still centre, some kind of truth or maybe nothing but a pile of peeled layers. I enlarged the carrot peelings on an overhead projector tracing them onto sheets of 4mm steel; finally cutting them out with plasma. I then manipulated the pieces on the fly press coaxing them into a dynamic dance finally having them coated at Wessex Galvanisers.
