The seats and balcony were made during the late1980s for the author Nina Grunfeld for her home in Twickenham. They were influenced by the criss-cross design of the windows in the house and the seats were intended to divide the garden into two ‘outside rooms’ . The designs comprised steel structures and York-stone surfaces to go with the paved garden area next to the house. The brass objects also shown below were curtain ties inspired by some of Matisse’s shapes.
